- The process -

 

 
 

Pre-Design

1. We'll hop on a free 30 minute consult call to discuss your project, get to know each other, talk about what features your website might need, and I'll answer any questions you might have. If we're a good fit, you'll pick your design period!

2. You'll reserve your design period based on when you'll have your content (text, photos, etc.) ready. Once you submit your reservation, you'll receive a welcome packet, which will contain your client homework and give you a detailed outline of the entire design process.

3. You'll fill out your 'client homework' - i.e., answer two questionnaires, prep your website content, collect your photos, etc., so that everything is submitted and ready go by the first day in your design period.

Don't worry - I'll check in with you periodically during the pre-design phase to see how things are going and I'll send you friendly reminders about your upcoming design period. Great communication is what is going to keep this project on track :)


 

Phase 1

1. Kick off Call - We'll start on Monday of Week 1 with a video call. At this point, you've already submitted all of your materials, so we'll begin by reviewing your content and then dive deeper into your inspiration. During this call we'll get crystal clear on your website's goals & style. 

2. Kick back and relax! I'll get to work designing your site (and logo/branding, if applicable). I'll also make sure that your site covers all of the bases in terms of design, function, integrations, and SEO.

Phase 2

1. Review and edit to your heart's content. You'll have unlimited edits so that by the end of the week, you have a site that you absolutely love. 

2. Website tutorial - On the last day of your design period, I'll give you a live Squarespace lesson so that you feel confident updating and editing your own site in the future!

3. Launch! Share your gorgeous new site, loud and proud!

Not sure if your website needs to be tweaked or needs an overhaul?

Maybe you're in the middle of DIY-ing it, or maybe you just need a web designer to look at your existing Squarespace site and give you some pointers and share some strategy. You can DIY all day (and night, in my experience), but there's nothing as helpful as a good, old-fashioned talk with an expert. When you book your call, you'll also send me your website link. You come with the questions, and I'll come prepared with some ideas and notes about what's working, what's not, or what's missing! You'll leave with all of your questions answered, and specific recommendations about how to make the most of your website.

1. Book

You can book your session by clicking the "Schedule a Session" button (below), and pick a time that works best for you! After booking, you'll receive a confirmation email with instructions and a questionnaire to help prep for our call. 

2. Prep

Prepare that long list of questions, ideas, or anything that you want to discuss in regards to your website, and submit it to me before our call.

3. Grow

We'll hop on a 60 minute call and talk over everything. If you don't know how to make any suggested changes, I'll have you login to your website and show you how to do them yourself! If we both conclude that you ACTUALLY need a complete site overhaul, the cost of your audit will be credited towards a new website package.

Frequently Asked Questions


Q: Break it down some more for me...how long does it take to build my site?

A: No problem; I could talk about web design all day! Two to three weeks is how long it will take me to build you a custom website, from start to finish. During these weeks, I'll be doing most of the work. Most of your work will actually be done before the building period begins!

 Once you book your design period, I'll send you a To-Do List, so you know exactly what needs to get done before your design start date. Items on the To-Do List include filling out 2 questionnaires, writing your website content (or hiring a copywriter), and gathering your photos (or hiring a photographer for a photoshoot).

We'll have a 1 hr consult call and then I'll get to work while you kick your feet up and relax. During the first phase, I'll build your site and create your branding items (if you purchased the website + branding package). During the second phase, we'll edit and tweak your site until it's just right. I'll take care of any 3rd party integrations, domain linking, SEO, etc. Finally, we'll have a live 1.5 hr video call so I can show you around your new site. I'll also give you a Squarespace tutorial so that you can feel confident updating your site in the future. Then we'll launch your new site!

Q: Do projects ever run over 2-3 weeks?

A: Honestly, yes, sometimes! But projects don’t run outside of the month they’re originally booked for. For example, if you book a project for February, we’ll likely have the project completed by mid-February. But if you need more time for any reason, we have two ‘grace’ weeks to finish it up. All projects are always completed by the end of the month!

 

Q: How do I know if Squarespace is the right fit for me?

A: I'd recommend Squarespace to anyone who values clean, modern, web design and doesn't want to deal with any technological nightmares or black holes. It's very user-friendly and is easy to maintain. It also works well with popular 3rd party integrations like Acuity (for booking appointments and services), ConvertKit, Mailchimp, social media accounts, etc.

Squarespace is great fit for most entrepreneurs, speakers, small business owners, bloggers, and creatives. It may not be a good fit if you have a large business or need complex features on your site (like individual user logins, complex booking systems, customized software, etc). If you have any questions about this part, you can book a free 15 minute consult call, and I'm happy to give you my advice! 

 

Q: How much does Squarespace cost?

A: Most clients use either the Personal Plan ($12/mo) or the Business Plan ($18/mo). You'll also need to purchase a domain (if you haven't yet), which normally costs around $12/yr. If you already purchased a domain, I'll simply transfer it to Squarespace!

 

Q: What design date should I choose?

A: If you have all of your website content ready to go (i.e., text for each page, photos, etc.), then you can choose the next available design date! If you still need to write your content and take your photos, I'd choose a start date that is about a month out. If you plan on hiring a copywriter and photographer, I'd recommend choosing a start date that is 2 months out. These are estimates that fit most clients - but of course only you know how busy you are or how fast you can work! 

 

Q: I'm concerned that I won't be able to make future edits or updates to my website because I don't know how to code... So will I need to contact you every time I need a change made?

A: I like to call this.... "hostage coding"; aka, when your web designer or developer (probably with no bad intentions) has created a great site but has to use their coding knowledge to edit your site...and charges you every time you need even simple changes. 

That ain't happenin' here! One of my core business principles is to empower other business owners, and this means making sure you feel confident that you're in control of your own website. On the last day of your design period, I'll give you a live Squarespace tutorial so you know how to make updates yourself in the future. I'll also leave you with a video recording of our lesson, and a 'cheat sheet' to help you in the future.

 

Q: I've heard horror stories from other business owners about new, 'unforeseen' charges popping up half-way through the design process, and the price ends up being way more than the original quote. What's up with that?

A: Ugh, that sounds awful! No, that will not happen here. Why? Because my design process is very clearly laid out, and communication is a top priority. This means we go over all of your site goals and needs from the very start. If you need special integrations or features, we'll talk about that at the beginning of the process and I will provide a quote for any extra charges that might apply. I will not surprise you halfway through with rogue fees!
